Thomas Foster Underwood Obituary

Thomas Foster Underwood was born June 9, 1957 to Arthur R. Underwood Jr, Capt. US Army, and Johanna K. Underwood, in Ancun, Panama Canal Zone, as the youngest of four sons. He was baptized at the Cathedral of St. Luke, March 30, 1969. Tom attended Coronado Middle School in Panama and Texas Military Institute, where he played football.

Tom attended USMA West Point, New York, and graduated in 1979, with a degree in Chemical and Electrical Engineering. His MOS was Air Defense Artillery. Following a tour at Ft. Bliss, Texas, Tom spent a year spent in Egypt and then returned to Ft. Bliss where he married Vivian Redman of San Antonio, Texas, at the Cathedral Church of St. Clement, in El Paso on July 30, 1983. The couple had two daughters, Claire and Victoria, throughout his appointments in Alaska and Texas.

After 17 years of military service, Tom retired as a Major and returned to Alaska, opening the first Computer Renaissance in Anchorage in 1997. Tom and Vivian were divorced in 2002. Tom later married Kelly Morrison in Anchorage, Alaska in 2017 in a private ceremony at Oceanview Park.

Tom was known as a fun person and engaging storyteller. Tom attended Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Anchorage, Alaska, and led a Bible study for several years. He was an avid inventor, balloon twister, and innovator.

Tom will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.

Tom is survived by his first wife, Vivian, and their daughters and their families: Claire and Brendon McKay and granddaughter Molly, Victoria and Ezra Stone and granddaughters Madelyn and Talia; second wife Kelly and her daughter Loran Butcher and family; Brother Christopher Underwood and wife Cindy; Cousin Karen Underwood; Cousin Connie Savard and family; Sister-in-law Wendy Underwood; Sister-in-law Davy Madewell and her daughter, Jessica Underwood; cousin John Whitehurst.

A memorial will be held on Saturday, February 17 at 3pm at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Anchorage, Alaska and can be attended in person or through livestream. He will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery later this year.
