Alfred Martin Leake Obituary

It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Fred Leake, a loving husband, a devoted father and loyal friend.

Fred was born in Burns Lake, BC and raised in McBride, BC, where he was an avid outdoorsman fond of hiking, camping, hunting, and fishing. In his youth he worked as a bookkeeper in a sawmill and a timekeeper on the railway, he did commercial ice fishing in Manitoba, was a bell hop in the Sylvia Hotel in Vancouver, while attending UBC, and finally settled to be a Chartered Accountant and partner with Price Waterhouse.

He married Nancy Hirsch in 1960. They had two sons. Life was filled with camping trips, 5 trips to Europe and many other out of country trips as well as exploring Canada. Later, after retiring he spent many hours everyday fly fishing and in the winter trips to the Southern states to enjoy the warm weather, the casinos, and the desert country. He enjoyed meeting people everywhere.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 63 years, Nancy, his son Jon (Laura, deceased), his granddaughter, Beth (Harley), Aymee (Gurpreet) and his great grandson Abel. He also leaves his 2 brothers, Charlie (Patricia) and Jack, plus many nieces and nephews and several cousins. He was predeceased by his younger son Ron in 2014.

Fred was an independent person, honest, caring, interested in past histories and a proud Canadian.

Many thanks to the wonderful hospital staff on 6th South. You all were so kind and caring, making Fred’s last days easier.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at the DoubleTree by Hilton Kamloops, 339 St. Paul St., Kamloops, BC
