Ruth (Epps) Jordan, 93, wife of Charles Watson Jordan formerly of Mt. Airy of Ft. Defiance, passed away Saturday, January 14, 2017 in Kings Daughters Community Health and Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. Jordan was born on June 15, 1923 in Prince George County, Virginia, a daughter of the late William Hamlin and Ruth Leslie (Wells) Epps. Ruth was an active member of Augusta Stone Presbyterian Church. She grew up in Richmond, Virginia and graduated from John Marshall High School in 1940. She was a homemaker and previously employed as a receptionist for R.A.C. in McLean, Virginia. Mrs. Jordan was a member of the Augusta Book Club, the Philanthropic Educational Organization, and she enjoyed cooking, gardening and spending time with her devoted pet cat, Chessie. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Jordan was preceded in death by a son, Ted (Theodore) Thompson Jordan. Mrs. Jordan was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving in addition to her husband of seventy-one years is a son, Charles W. Jordan, Jr. and his wife Linda of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania; daughter in-law, Dana M. Flanders of Fort Defiance, Virginia, and her children, Charlotte McPherson and Richard McPherson; three grandchildren, Benjamin R. Jordan and wife Laura, Grayson E. Jordan and wife Heather and Timothy A. Jordan and wife Mary Kate Law, and their mother, Mary Rust; five great-grandchildren, Violet M. Jordan, Charles F.K. Jordan, Thomas A.K. Jordan, Andrew M.K. Jordan and Ruth R. Jordan; a goddaughter, Guerry Stirling Willis and husband, Tom; and a number of nieces and nephews also survive. A memorial service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 19, 2017 in the Augusta Stone Presbyterian Church by Rev. Beth McCrary. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. Burial will be private in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization), 3700 Grand Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa 50312, or Augusta Stone Presbyterian Church, Post Office Box 118, Fort Defiance 24482, or to a charity of ones choice. Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton, is in charge of her arrangements.
