Eileen Jessie “Tuney” Rudderham of Point Edward passed away January 20, 2024, in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital at the age of 107.

Tuney, as she was known to everyone, was born June 10, 1916, on the family farm where she lived for 104 years.

She was a daughter of John Chipman Rudderham of Point Edward and Jean Rudderham (Kidd) of Scotland.

She was predeceased by her brothers, Herman, Charles and Hubert Rudderham and sisters, Ethel Watson and Mary Young.

Tuney is survived by her sister, Shirley Fraser of Point Edward, currently residing at the Northside Guest Home; many nieces and nephews including, Jeanette Moody (George), Karin MacKenzie-Phillips, Marilyn Howlett (Howard Nickerson), Dawn Michele Moore (Frank), Marjorie MacInnis; nephews, Brian Young (Carole), John Young (Evelyn) and Bill Fraser (Linda Hardy); and many grand and great-grandnieces and nephews.

Tuney was a self-described "career girl" who began as a seamstress sewing draperies and worked at Bonnell’s Furniture Store for over 40 years.

She lived independently in her own home until she reached the age of 104 when she went to assisted living at Rideout House before moving to Northside Guest Home in 2022. She was a very social person who loved the outdoors, fiddle music, dancing and enjoyed skating in her younger years.

Her family is grateful to have had her in our lives for so long and join with the community of Point Edward in saying, Farewell Tuney- you will long be remembered and forever loved.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Sydney Memorial Chapel on Saturday, June 1st at 2 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Thomas Whent officiating. Interment will take place in Mitchell Island Cemetery, Point Edward.
