Margaret Jean Hinton Obituary

Margaret Jean Ward-Hinton, a long-time resident of Bowie, died Sunday the 22nd of January, peacefully at home. Born in 1939 in Glen Ridge, N.J., Margaret attended Pine Forge Academy in Pennsylvania with her sister. She then migrated to Massachusetts where she received her Nursing Education from Berea College in Stoneham. She continued her education and received a degree from Middlesex Community College. Margaret was not your average nurse. Her gifts and ability to work with people opened the door to many exciting career opportunities. Teaching CPR and first aid at the Red Cross, learning and teaching American Sign Language (ASL) at the Cotting School, driving for The Ride and working Private Duty with many families. In another career shift, she took a position at Boston University in their Health Services Department, where she worked until her retirement. During retirement, Margaret volunteered as a tutor for the Maryland Literacy program, a teacher’s assistant for a private school and as a receptionist for the Bowie Senior Center, just to name a few. Margaret loved reading, playing board games, word games and card games (really all games). She enjoyed eating good food (especially sweets) and cooking, going to shows at the Arena Stage, Kennedy Center and other venues. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren. She was married to the late Garland “Chuck” Hinton on March 4, 1962. Margaret is survived by her three children, Marshall Hinton, Leah Hinton and Barbara Hinton, grandchildren, Hassan Nur, Asante Samuels and Dhakiya Hinton, sister, the late Barbara Jessup-Miles, niece, Ursula Fobbs and host of family and friends. Lasting Tributes has been entrusted with arrangements. 2 Thessalonians 3:16 New International Version (NIV) - Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.
