In Loving Memory of Allen Dale Westbrook August 16, 1948 - December 21, 2023
Allen Dale Westbrook, age 75, son of Glenn and Marjorie Ahart Westbrook, was born on August 16, 1948. He was the first-born son. His mother unexpectedly passed away in May of 1951, after an extended illness from diabetic complications. Allen was grateful when his father married Mary Louise Gutierrez and blessed him with three devoted siblings: Robert Westbrook, Judy Westbrook Smith, and Jan Westbrook Widmer.
Allen grew up in Albany, Oregon. He loved the small-town atmosphere he remembered in his youth. He told many stories of his antics with his best friend and many cousins. Upon graduating from high school, at seventeen years old, Allen proudly joined the U.S. Army; and served two Vietnam tours in Army Intelligence.
After returning from Vietnam, Allen attended Southern Oregon College in Ashland, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business. There he met his first wife, Judith Holtzinger. Together, they had two children: Thomas Paul Westbrook and Julia Edith Westbrook. Allen worked as an Accountant in Medford until his father approached him and offered him an opportunity he could not refuse. They were going to build restaurant businesses together. Allen served as the family businesses’ CEO, including the Tom-Tom Restaurant, Westbrook Restaurant & Yaquina Bay Restaurant for thirteen years.
Allen met his wife of nearly 40 years, Linda Rene Kreder-Westbrook. They married in 1984 and added to the family: Matthew Allen Westbrook and Lindsay Ann Westbrook. As entrepreneurs, Allen and Linda established a small chain of convenience stores called Stop & Go Market, which they successfully operated for over 30 years proudly serving the Albany and Corvallis area.
Many knew Allen for being a historian and storyteller, he loved to share the history of Oregon with his family on their many camping and motorcycle road trips around Oregon and surrounding states. In addition to his love for motorcycles and the outdoors, he loved tinkering in his shop, he was a talented carpenter and could repair just about anything. Allen was a loyal, devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, and veteran with a genuine kindness that touched the lives of everyone around him. He was an excellent provider and was always concerned about the health of his family; even his 4-legged family members. He was a quiet, peaceful, kind, respectful gentleman with a warm smile. A jokester with a dry sense of humor. His sisters always managed to get him blushing with their affectionate teasing. He showed love by his many acts of service and kindness.
Allen passed away on December 21, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. In March, Allen was diagnosed with kidney cancer, likely caused by Agent Orange, a toxic herbicide the U.S. Military used in Vietnam. Allen was a silent force, kind, and considerate even in his last moments. He fought to the very end like every brave soldier does. His legacy as an outdoor enthusiast, devoted family man, and dedicated serviceman will forever live in our hearts.
Allen is survived by his, wife Linda Westbrook; children: Thomas, Julia, Matthew, and Lindsay; grandchildren: Kristin, Zoe, Rowan, Gage, Piper, and Murphy; brother: Robert Westbrook; sisters: Judy Smith and Jan Widmer; aunts: Mary Vosper and Elaine Westbrook.
