MANNING – Charlton Ard, 92, husband of Dorothy Carter Ard, died Sunday, December 3, 2023, at his home.


Born September 12, 1931, in Alcolu, he was a son of the late Julius Marion Ard and the late Sarah Olivia Prosser Ard. He was a retired US Air Force veteran of WWII, Korea and Vietnam Wars. He was a member of Second Baptist Church of Manning.


He is survived by his wife of 68 years of Manning; two children, Donald Ard of Manning and Tyra Justice of Summerville; six grandchildren, Charlton Ard, Sarah Thomas (Allan), Morgan Ard (Nicoleta), Adam Ard (Justiann), Paula Justice and Britton Johnson (Ric); nine great grandchildren, Evelyne Llie, Delia Ard, Espen Thomas, Nicholas Ard, Tyra Lilly Johnson, Hank Johnson, Amelia Johnson, Zadie Ard and Declan Thomas; and several nieces and nephews.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Paul Britton Justice III; and seven siblings.


A graveside service with full military honors will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at Clarendon Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Derrick Fort officiating.


Visitation will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the residence, 1252 Peggy Lane, Manning.
