W. Eric Lynds Obituary

Lynds, W. Eric – Age 90, of North River, Colchester County, passed away on Thursday, November 30, 2023. Born in North River, he was a son of the late J. Rankin and Prudence (Sharpe) Lynds.

He leaves to mourn, his wife and best friend of 66 years, Anna (MacKinnon) Lynds; sons, Timothy Mark, Peter Michael (Heather) and Christopher Eric (Sherisse); as well as four granddaughters, Sarah, Hannah, Danae and Sophia.

He was predeceased by brothers, Warren, Stewart and Soley; sisters, Georgia Frizzell and Marjorie Gogan.

Eric will long be remembered as a talented athlete, participating in softball, hockey and curling. His former softball team, The North River Aces (1964), was inducted into the Truro Sports Hall of Fame in 2002.

He was well known and respected in the electrical trade in Nova Scotia. Eric was a Red Seal Construction Electrician and worked early in his career with several local contractors. He changed career paths to educator and taught the electrical trade for 28 years, beginning at the Pictou campus before moving to the Colchester Regional Vocational School until it closed in 1996. After taking this position, Eric went on to receive his Bachler of Arts degree from Saint Mary’s University to upgrade his teaching license. Many of his students have kept in touch over the years and he took great pride in hearing about their successful careers in the electrical trade.

Eric was a member of the former Onslow United Church, now Trinity United, where he served for many years as an Elder, Trustee and Steward, and sitting on many committees and boards within the church.

Always interested in serving the North River community, he served as a school trustee of North River Elementary School, a past secretary of the North River Fire Brigade, a past secretary/treasurer of the Aenon Baptist Cemetery and coaching many ball and hockey teams.

Always one to lend a hand, Eric enjoyed helping others, using his many talents to organize and execute plans for activities including fundraising for the church, home renovations and vehicle maintenance. Eric enjoyed summers camping with his family during his working years and in his retirement, loved travelling with Anna and many close friends in their motorhomes to blue grass and country music festivals throughout Nova Scotia. This passion led them to serve as President of the Family Motor Coach Association.

Eric was known by friends and neighbours as a man of integrity with a great sense of humor. His kind and loving nature immediately endeared him to his growing family as his youngest sons married, and his granddaughters were born. Always up for attending a concert, dance or piano recital, Eric relished his role as Grampy.

Memorial donations may be made to the Trinity United Church Building Fund or the Aenon Baptist Cemetery Fund.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, December 6th, at 2pm in Trinity United Church, Onslow, Colchester County, NS. Interment in Aenon Baptist Cemetery will be held at a later date.
