Rev. Dr. Rodney Jeremiah Booker Obituary

Rev. Dr. Rodney Jeremiah Booker was born on April 30, 1951, to Samuel and Cleopatra Booker in Corpus Christi, TX. On November 22, 2023, in Dallas, Texas, he transitioned to eternity with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Affectionately known as "Jerry", "Doc", and "Jeremiah", Jeremiah graduated from Moody High School in Corpus Christi, Texas. He continued his undergraduate studies at the University of Houston, earning a Bachelor of Science in Journalism. He also attended Southern Methodist University, Perkins School of Theology, where he earned a Master of Divinity (MDiv).  He later earned the Doctor of Ministry (DMin) at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary.

Dr. Booker faithfully served God's people for 37 years. His assignments included the Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church; Senior Pastor of Love United Methodist Church in  Houston, Texas; Senior Pastor of Mount Vernon United Methodist Church in Houston, Texas; Director of Shalom Zone Ministries; Senior Pastor of Mission Bend United Methodist Church in Houston, Texas; Spiritual Formation Professor, Perkins School of Theology, Houston-Galveston; North Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church; Senior Pastor, Trinity United Methodist Church in Grand Praire, Senior Pastor, Hamilton Park United Methodist Church in Dallas, Texas; Associate Pastor, Highland Park United Methodist Church in Dallas, Texas; and Spiritual Formation Professor, Perkins School of Theology in Dallas, Texas. A man devoted to the United Methodist faith for most of his life, Dr. Booker retired in July 2023. 

Dr. Booker married Effie Dennison (Brian), and a beautiful daughter, Rori Elizabeth, was born. On August 16, 2003, he united with Petrella Wright in holy matrimony. The two worked together in ministry and remained united until his transition. 

Among many hobbies, Dr. Booker loved studying the Word of God and spending time with family and friends. He loved cheering on his grandsons and was lovingly known as "The Soccer Grandpa" at their sporting events. He also enjoyed traveling and gardening. His greatest joy witnessing the growth and development of his daughter Rori and her family.

Dr. Booker was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Cleopatra Booker; and his grandparents - Mary B. Wilson-James, Frank Wilson Sr, Charles James, Allie Mack Booker, and Sadie Murray Booker. Those left to cherish lasting memories include his wife, Petrella Booker; his daughter, Rori Elizabeth Coryatt (Sean); his sister, Nina Wilson Blair (Bobby); his grandsons - Immanuel Joseph Coryatt, Isaac Jeremiah Coryatt, and Benjamin Jude Coryatt; his nieces and nephew- Kamren Lightsy, Dana Wilson, and David; and a host of other relatives and friends.
