Marian (Kathryn) Waagbo Obituary

Marian (Kathryn) Waagbo, 89, of Issaquah, Washington passed away on November 19, 2023.

Marian is predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Richard Waagbo. She is survived by her three children, Steve Waagbo (Jean) of Christiansburg, VA, Dave Waagbo (Jane) of Bonita Springs, Fl and Lauren Mincin (Mark) of Sammamish, WA. She was at her happiest when surrounded by her family, especially her grandchildren, Justin Waagbo (Bailey), Kristen Skiera (Kyle), Katie Mincin, Emily Pfluger (Richard), Haley Mincin & Kacie Imsdahl (Jack). She was also the proud Great Mommom of Avery, Caslen, Zoe, and Lane.

Marian grew up in Union City, NJ, where she was active in Eastern Star and met her future husband, Richard. She graduated from the Katharine Gibbs school in New York City prior to getting married in 1958. Marian and Richard started their family in Paramus, New Jersey before moving to Ellicott City, Maryland in 1968.

Dick and Marian were always very active volunteers whether at their family church, First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ellicott City, or at the local hospitals in the communities in which they lived. Marian volunteered into her 80’s at the local hospital in Sammamish, Washington.

Marian enjoyed tennis and more importantly loved spending time with her grandchildren. She could always be seen on the sideline of her grandchildren’s lacrosse or basketball games or their band or school performances. Marian was able to travel east a year ago at age 88 to watch a Virginia Tech football game with her great grandchildren in Blacksburg, VA and this past August served as the Flower Grandmother at her granddaughter Kacie’s wedding in Minneapolis, MN.

We will be scattering her ashes, as per her wishes. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her name to Masicorp.org, a nonprofit that supports education in South Africa, an organization she has been a faithful contributor to over the years. Or, support your local food bank for the disadvantaged in your hometown.
