Earl W McKoy Obituary

Earl Weldon McKoy was born in Newark, NJ on October 31, 1956, to the late J.W. and Betty Jean McKoy. He departed his earthly vessel on Monday, November 13, 2023. After his father died he moved to Wagram, NC, and attended Nazareth Baptist Church. After graduating from Scotland H.S., he went on to attend Kittrell College in Kittrell, NC. While attending Kittrell he joined the Groove Phi Groove Fraternity. Earl then moved back to Newark, NJ where he attended Robert Walsh Business School for court reporting. Earl then went on to attend Essex County College where he followed his passion and majored in music & theater and received his Associate d

Degree. As for his career, he worked many years at JC Penny’s Headquarters, freelanced, and then became an entrepreneur. 

Some of his many accomplishments were singing with the likes of Albertina Walker, Dionne Warwick, Alvin Darling’s Celebration, and was on The Bobby Jones Gospel Show many times, just to name a few. 

Off Broadway Shows included: That Gospel Feeling, Your Arms Are Too Short to Box with God; Momma, I want T

to Sing, Dreamgirls, and Going Back Home. He also appeared on the Big Screen in movies such as Crocodile Dundee 1 & 2, Malcolm X, Carlito’s Way, and America’s Most Wanted. 

Earl grew up in the church and was very active in ministry. He attended Victory Temple Church where he was the choir director and served as arm bearer to Pastor Ernest Leonard. Earl was also an ordained deacon. 

All who knew him could never forget him, whether it be as a big brother, Smiley the Bubbly Clown, or as Santa Claus, you could never be in his presence long without him making you laugh. 

Earl was preceded in death by his brother, James Evins McKoy, Sr.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his siblings: M. Donnell Farmer, (Meta), Erwin Miles, (Kathy), (sis-in-love) Sheila McKoy, Sandra Dean Coach, Sharon Jones, Loria Jones Burgess. He leaves one aunt, Hattie Mae Farmer, and a whole host of nieces, nephews, cousins, & friends
