<p>(Ret.) Waltham Police Officer Miguel Marrero</p><p><br></p><p>Of Waltham, passed away peacefully in his wife's loving arms on Friday morning November 17th, 2023 at Brigham &amp; Women's Hospital in Boston after a courageous battle with a neuroblastoma. He was 69.</p><p><br></p><p>Born on January 7, 1954 in Coamo, Puerto Rico; son of Elena Figueroa. Miguel came from Puerto Rico to Cambridge, Massachusetts at the age of 14. He was raised and educated in Cambridge and had lived there for many years before moving to Waltham in 1989. </p><p><br></p><p>A graduate of Cambridge Ringe &amp; Latin High School, Miguel furthered his education at Western New England College with a degree in Criminal Justice. </p><p><br></p><p>In 1983, Miguel was appointed to the Waltham Police Department on September 11 as one of its first Hispanic police officers. He served in many different capacities over the years in Patrol and Community Policing on the Motorcycle Unit. Miguel retired on September 11, 2015 after 32 years of faithful and honorable service to the citizens of Waltham. He was a member of the Waltham Police Patrolman's Union, Massachusetts Coalition of Police - MassCOP, and served on the board of the Waltham Police Relief Association. </p><p><br></p><p>In his spare time, Miguel was a fitness freak, always running, jogging, keeping in shape in every way possible. He ran the Boston Marathon 4 times and spent time boxing. He enjoyed playing and watching sports. He loved baseball, football and golfing. He also had a passion for the water, boating and riding his motorcycle. He was a member of the Charles River Yacht Club in Cambridge and the Blue Demons Motorcycle Club. </p><p><br></p><p>Although Miguel had many different interests and hobbies, nothing in this world meant more to him then his family. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, son and brother. He was kind, caring and compassionate with a great sense of humor. He was always looking out for others and lending a helping hand, especially to his neighbors. He will be truly missed by those that had the privilege of knowing him. </p><p><br></p><p>Miguel is survived by the love of his life and soulmate, his wife of 50 years Ana D. (Morales) Marrero; his devoted &amp; loving children Miguel Marrero Jr. and Daisy Marrero both of Waltham; his cherished grandchildren Dezina Marrero, Emily Bibeau and Jason Bibeau; his beloved mother Elena of Puerto Rico; and his dear brother Jose Marrero of Florida. In addition, he is survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and numerous friends. </p><p><br></p><p>Those who wish to pay their respects to Miguel and his family can do so in the Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco &amp; Sons Memorial, 773 Moody Street, WALTHAM on Friday, November 24th from 3pm until 7pm. Parking attendants will be on duty.</p><p><br></p><p>Family and friends are welcome to gather and celebrate Miguel's life to remember the love and friendship he shared with others on Saturday morning November 25th at 9am from the Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass at Sacred Heart Church, 311 River Street, Waltham at 10:00 AM. Burial with Waltham Police Honors will follow at Mount Feake Cemetery in Waltham.</p>
