Sedonia Duronslet Mitchell, lovingly known as Momma, Maw Maw, T-Nanny, and Mitch, was born on December 13, 1940, in Lucy, LA to the late Bertha Louper and Elizey Duronslet, Sr. She peacefully entered eternal rest at the age of 82 years old on November 7, 2023, as she slept. Sedonia married the late Sterling Mitchell, Sr., the love of her life in 1962 and together they had three children, Kevin, Sterling Jr. and the late Dwayne Mitchell, Sr. Sedonia was a graduate of Second Ward High School in Edgard. LA where she enjoyed playing basketball. After graduating and getting married Sedonia and Sterling Sr. moved to New Orleans, LA where they began their family and careers. Sedonia retired from the Family Planning Department of the State of Louisiana after 30 years and worked an additional 3 ½ years in the drop program managing the post office for the State Office Building. Sedonia was a devout Catholic and was a member of both Our Lady of Lourdes Church in New Orleans, LA and Holy Guardian Angles Church in Bridge City, LA. Sedonia was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son and sisters Thelma Joseph, Geraldine Thomas, & Delphine Young, and brothers Robert Duronslet, Elizey (Bazy) Duronslet, Jr., & Clifford Duronslet. Sedonia leaves to cherish her memories sons Kevin (Trisha) Mitchell, & Sterling (Leslie) Mitchell, Jr., grandchildren Amanda (James) Mitchell – 1 child, Gabrielle (Phillip) Green – 1 child, Nicholas (Eboni) Washington – 4 children, Tamesha (Cedrick) Frank – 2 children, Dwayne (Kiara) Mitchell, Jr., – 3 children, Sterling (Si’ana) Mitchell, III, Miquel (Dwayne) Mitchell – 4 children, Tyren Mitchell, Tyree Mitchell, & Nehemiah Hickman, sister Sheral (Murphy) Isom, sisters-in-law Mae Rose Duronslet and Gladys Duronslet, along with a countless number of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended relatives and friends.
