Betty Ann Whitacre Morrison, 85, of Capon Bridge, WV died on Friday, March 2, 2018 at her home. Mrs. Morrison the daughter of Delbert Wesley Whitacre and Anna Elizabeth (Oates) Whitacre was born October 7, 1932. She was the only daughter in the family of seven children lovingly raised by Delbert and Anna. She was a member of the first graduating class of James Wood High School in 1951. After graduation she spent the next several years at home helping the family and working. She married James Floyd “Tiddles” Morrison on September 5, 1959. They moved to the Morrison family farm on what is now Carpers Pike and started their life there together working the farm. On March 13, 1963 she gave birth to their only child Bonita Ann Morrison (Taylor). Betty continued to help work the farm and raise Bonita all the while staying very active with many family functions and gatherings, helping at the Gore Volunteer Fire Department, and many various duties at Hebron Baptist Church, where she was a lifelong member. On March 29, 1997 she laid Tiddles her husband of 37 years to rest. For the past 18 years she had been enjoying travel here and abroad with Bonita while remaining active in the community. Many who knew her understood the nick name “Racin Ruth” that had been given her by Tiddles and Bonita. She would often say “You don’t know how much time you got left so go ahead and get there”. Bonita preceded Betty in death on January 3, 2018. Surviving are her brothers: Kenneth Lee and his wife Lois Whitacre of Winchester, VA; Jackie Elwood and his wife Linda Whitacre of Gore, VA; George Edward and his wife Lela Whitacre of Gore, VA; Morris Ray and his wife Carol Whitacre of Oklahoma City OK; her sisters in law: Wanda Jean Whitacre of Gore, VA; Mary Haines Whitacre of Augusta, WV and many nieces &nephews. She is preceded in death by two brothers: John Wesley Whitacre and Frank Allen Whitacre. A funeral service will be held at the Giffin Funeral Home & Crematory in Capon Bridge on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at 2:00 PM. Officiating will be Pastors James Simmons and Dennis Elsea. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery near Gore, VA. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 from 5-8 PM. Pallbearers will be: Eddie Landis, Charles Whitacre, Jackie Whitacre Jr, Scott Whitacre, Delbert Whitacre Paige Whitacre. Honorary pallbearers will be Russell Saville and Gary Hott.
