MSgt. John Allen Strand, Sr., USAF (Ret.) Obituary

John A. Strand, 65, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, February 20, 2018. John was born in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan on October 6, 1952, son of the late Sigard and Lois Strand-Hammerberg. A proud United States Air Force Veteran, he served his country for 21 years before retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant. John went on to retire from the Georgia Department of Corrections as an investigator, as well. A longtime member of Southside Baptist Church, John was a mentor to everyone he knew always giving good advice to those who needed it. His playful demeanor and never ending sense of humor left a smile on everyone’s face, especially when he pulled out a good practical joke from under his belt. John’s unconditional love for his family and for God will forever be imprinted on the hearts of all who knew him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ray Cunningham. John’s memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife of 46 years, Terri L. Strand of Warner Robins; children, John Strand II (Nikki) of Dickinson, North Dakota, Timothy Strand (Anna) of Lake Odessa, Michigan, Stephanie Keller (David) of Perry, Georgia, and Cynthia Ray (Robert) of Kirklin, Indiana; grandchildren, John Allen (Katie), Mathew, Isabella, Dustin, Karolina, Averi, Karl, D.J., Jadon, Robbie, Garrett, and Tyler; great-grandchildren, Aubrianna and Bennett; and sisters, Terry Sue Snelenburger and Sandy Raley, both of Englewood, Florida. Visitation will be Friday, February 23, 2018, from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 24, 2018 in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Mr. Strand will be laid to rest in Andersonville National Cemetery on Monday, February 26, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of John Allen to the American Cancer Society, 804 Cherry St., Ste. A, Macon, GA 31201. McCullough Funeral Home and Crematory has the privilege of being entrusted with Mr. Strand’s arrangements.
