Glen Luthi Obituary

Virgil “Glen” Luthi departed this earth and entered the gates of Heaven on the morning of February 20, 2018. He was born in a little farm house south of Gage, Oklahoma on September 6, 1918 to Charlie and Marie (Schickedanz) Luthi. He attended Fargo High School and later attended and graduated from Oklahoma A&M College in 1941. Soon after that he enlisted in the Army Air Corps during World War II and was stationed in the Aleutian Islands of Alaska to serve his country for four years. Upon his discharge Glen married his college sweetheart and the love of his life Wandalea Francis Hughes. The couple were blessed with three sons: Joe, Ted, and Chuck.

Glen had three loves in his life. They were his God, his family and his church. When Ted and Chuck moved out and started their own families, the church became his second home and second family. Glen, Wanda and Joe, who some refer to as “The Trio” were inseparable. Glen and Wanda spent 69 blessed years together and loved and cared for Joe for 64 of those 69 years. Glen never complained about the responsibility of caring for Joe. He did everything he possibly could to help make Joe’s life complete and meaningful.

Glen accepted Christ as his Saviour at the age of 15 and committed the remaining 85 years of his life to the faithful service of his Lord. Glen’s legacy was his family. As someone once said of Glen, “what more could you want”? In 3 John verse 6, Johns says “I have no greater joy than to know that my children walk in the truth”. So, as Glen Luthi and world famous evangelist Billy Graham both enter Heaven a day apart at the age of 99, both proclaiming the gospel in different ways and to different people, the first words they will hear from the Lord when they arrive are “well done, thy good and faithful servants”.

Glen was preceded in death by his parents Charlie and Marie Luthi, wife Wanda, son Joe and sister Helen Branstetter. Survivors include two sons, Ted and wife Elda, Chuck and wife Wathina; four grandsons: Bert and wife Sally, Alex and wife Heather, Eric and wife Becca and Caleb; one granddaughter Jayme; six great-grandchildren, Emily, Heidi, Molly, Chase, Ivan and Jack.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 24, 2018 at the Bible Baptist Church in Woodward with Reverend Jerry Harrison officiating. Interment will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery with the United States Army providing military graveside rites.
