Laura Lee Snake “Nį Šąnąk Wįga”, 62, of Black River Falls, died Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Black River Memorial Hospital. Laura was born November 7, 1955 in Black River Falls to Lawrence and Ellen (Wilson) Snowball. She was a lifelong resident of the Black River Falls area. Laura married John Snake on December 15, 1979 in Black River Falls. He preceded her in death on July 16, 2010. Laura worked for the Ho-Chunk Nation in many different capacities through the years. She enjoyed spending time with her family. In her free time she did beading, sewing, canning, going out to movies and traveling. Laura is survived by her children, LaRue “Cheebo” (Heather) Snake of Sargent Bluff, IA, Joy Snake (Ahu Williams) of Sparta, Veronica Snake (Coleman Funmaker) of Black River Falls, John Snake (Loriann Meithke) of Madison and Jesse Snake (Tena Funmaker) of Madison; seven sisters, Ruth Rave of Black River Falls, Pam Hall of Black River Falls, Tara (Curtis) Tindall of Madison, Susan Slowey of Black River Falls, Eileen Meers of California, Minette Snowball of Black River Falls and Melanie Stacy of Black River Falls; three brothers, Calvin (Margo) Snowball of Sells, AZ, David Snowball of Sparta and George Stacy Jr of Black River Falls. She is further survived by sixteen grandchildren. In addition to her husband John, she was preceded in death by her parents Lawrence and Ellen Snowball and a brother Lawrence Snowball Jr. Native American Church services will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at District One Community Center, N7162 Warrior Av, Black River Falls, WI. Mann John Falcon will be presiding. Committal will be in Decorah Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m., Tuesday at the Community Center.
