Worthington, MN Jerry Edward Janssen, age 88, was born on April 19, 1929, in Sibley, IA, the son of Edward and Clarice (Pontow) Janssen. He grew up and attended school in Sibley. Jerry served in the United States Navy from 1947 to 1950. He was united in marriage to Leila Koeneke on September 15, 1951, in Worthington, MN. Jerry passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2018, at the Crossroads Care Center in Worthington, MN. Jerry is survived by his wife, Leila of Worthington, MN; three sons, Richard and his wife Connie of Baxter, MN, Edward and his wife Lisa of Havensville, KS, and Russel and his wife Evonne of Heron Lake, MN; seven grandchildren, and fourteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Gerald; grandparents, Jerry and Fannie Janssen and August and Lucy Pontow, and sisters, Lois Abels, Gloria Hunt, and Marian Seivert. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2018, at 11:30 a.m., at Grace Community Church in Worthington, MN, with Pastor Scott Barber officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the church. Benson Funeral Home in Worthington is in charge of the arrangements.
