Arline M. Lahue, 88, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 3, 2018. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 8, 2018, at First Baptist Church in Vinton with Pastor Jared Cline officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 9 to 11 a.m. Arline will be laid to rest next to her husband in the Urbana Cemetery. Arline was born August 14, 1929, in Lamont, Iowa, the daughter of Orville and Ruth Morris Whitney. She was a 1947 graduate of Lamont High School. On June 22, 1958, Arline was united in marriage with Richard Lahue at the Baptist Church in Manchester, Iowa. Arline traveled with her husband to air bases in the United States and Germany during his Air Force career. When Richard retired, the couple settled in Vinton where Arline worked for 20 years for Vinton-Shellsburg schools. She retired as Head Cook from East Elementary. Arline was a member of First Baptist Church in Vinton, serving as Deaconess and Trustee. She was also the Sunday School Superintendent for 9 years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and was very active in Christian Women’s Club. Arline loved nature and bird-watching, the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Chicago Bulls. She was a strong supporter of the military and was known to engage in spirited political debates. Most of all, she was very proud of her grandchildren. Arline is survived by her children, Joyce (Scott) Allard of Shawnee, KS, and David Lahue of Vinton; grandchildren, Lacey Kisling and Ben Lahue; sisters-in-law Agnes Whitney and Betty Lahue; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard, on December 9, 1980; her siblings and their spouses: Earl (Barbara), Marion (Viola) and Claire Whitney, Donna (John) Akin and Neva (Robert) Hardy; and brothers- and sisters-in-law: Robert and Ann Lahue, Charles and Lois Lahue and Harley Lahue. A memorial fund has been established. Arline was a faithful servant of the Lord, a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, aunt and friend to many. She will be missed and warmly remembered by those who knew and loved her.
