Dwayne “Rahim” Meekins was born August 12, 1964, in Newark NJ, to the late Willie James Tutt and Dottie M. Tutt. He attended the Newark School System and graduated from Barringer High School, in 1982. He worked as a chef at Grove Park Health Care and Rehabilitation Center. Rahim was an exceptional Chef. His passion for cooking was unmatched. He dedicated his life to his children and the culinary arts, delighting countless palates with his exquisite creations. His love for food was evident in every dish he prepared, and his talent in the kitchen was truly extraordinary. He passed down his love for food to his son Alshabbar and daughter Darlene who are also Chefs and have the same passion for food. Dwayne “Rahim” Meekins peacefully passed away in his sleep on September 18, 2023. Rahim was known for his infectious sense of humor and charming personality. He had a way of brightening up any room he entered, effortlessly bringing joy and laughter to those around him. In so many words, HE WAS SILLY!!! Rahims charisma and warmth touched the hearts of many, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Rahim’s family was the center of his world. Rahim's love and support knew no bounds, and his presence will forever be felt in the lives of those he held dear. Rahim cherished his family. His role as a father was one, he held close to his heart, and he left behind a legacy of love and devotion. He leaves to cherish his loving memories, seven children: Darlene, Big Ebony, Alshabarr, LaTorah, Lil Ebony, Shahim, Kendal J and Kendal M; his loving mother: Dottie M. Tutt; 3 sisters: Dorothy Meekins, April Gordon, and Bridgett Tutt-McCray (Otis McCray); 2 brothers: Randolph meekins (Geneen Meekins) and Burtin Meekins; 12 Grandchildren: Deyona, Azari, Antuan, Shemir, Al- Naiquan, Al-Nairon, Nevaeh, Divon, Logan, Lisa, Ski, Sincere, and Jovan; 3 Great-Grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephew, relatives, and family. Rahim was preceded in death by his father, the late Willie James Tutt and his brother, Steven Tutt. As we remember and honor Rahim's life, let us celebrate the joy he brought into the world. His culinary creations and infectious laughter will forever be etched in our memories. May he rest in eternal peace, knowing that his legacy lives on in the hearts of all those who loved him.
