<p>O’Flaherty, James Patrick </p><p>January 17, 1960 – September 29, 2023</p><p><br></p><p>The family of James (Jamie) O’Flaherty are deeply saddened to announce his passing on September 29, 2023 at the young age of 63 years after a short courageous battle with cancer. Jamie will be forever and fondly remembered by his loving wife of 44 years Marina, his daughter Lisa and granddaughter, Jaymee, his pride and joy. He will also be missed by his father, Dr. William O’Flaherty and stepmother, Florence Ann, his sisters Kathy O’Flaherty and Celeste Andrews (Peter), niece, Katie nephews, Benjamin, Timothy, Liam and Matthew. Sisters in law Debbie Butt (Guy), Beverly Penney (Ray) and Brother in Law Merrill Power (Doris). Jamie also leaves to mourn a special uncle Fabian O’Flaherty (Carol-Ann) to whom he was very close. His Aunts Mary King, Bernadette Dunne and Rosaleen O’Flaherty.</p><p> Predeceased by his mother Louise Desrochers his grandparents Augustus and Jane O’Flaherty, Irene and Paul Desrochers and his Uncles Patrick and Edward O’Flaherty. As well as his Parents in Law Edward and Elsie Power. </p><p><br></p><p>Jamie was the first Grandchild of the O’Flaherty family. He was born in Montreal but grew up in Western Bay and he developed a passion of fishing with his father and Grandfather. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time alone with his father in the woods trouting and having a boil up. </p><p><br></p><p>Jamie graduated from college in St. John’s in 1979 as a Millwright. After graduation he was hired by Iron Ore Company of Canada in Labrador City until 1987. The family then moved to Southern Ontario where he had held different positions until they moved back to Newfoundland in October 2008. </p><p>He is still an active member of the Carpenters and Millwrights Union Local 579. </p><p><br></p><p>In 2015, Jamie discovered his passion, baking sourdough bread. He was hired by Powells Supermarket in 2019 and hence Powell’s Artisan by Jamie was born. </p><p><br></p><p>A very special Thank you to all of the medical teams at Carbonear General Hospital for their compassion, care and guidance since his diagnosis. Furthermore, we would like to thank Debbie and her team at Comfort Home Care for their immediate response and going above and beyond with his home care. </p><p><br></p><p>The family will be receiving relatives and friends at Slade’s Funeral Home, L.T. Stick Drive, Bay Roberts on Thursday: 6-9 P.M. No flowers by request of the family.</p><p><br></p><p>The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 6th, 2023 at 11 A.M. from Slade’s Funeral Home, Bay Roberts.
