Sherilee Rae Smith, 71, of Malcom, died January 14, 2017, at Brooklyn Community Estate in Brooklyn. A Celebration of Life service will be held 12:30 p.m. Thursday, January 19th, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell, with Rev. John Epperson of Grinnell officiating. Pallbearers will be Dennis Bennett, Dell Coleman, Don McDowell, Craig Sieck, Bill Simonton and Phil Smith. Burial will be in Ivy Hill Cemetery in Malcom. The family will greet friends prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Sherilee Smith Memorial Fund. Sherilee was born June 27, 1945, in Grinnell, the daughter of Elmer Raymond and Beatrice Elizabeth Clevenger McDonald. She was raised in Grinnell and was a 1963 graduate of Grinnell High School. She took several accounting courses at Marshalltown Community College. On June 6, 1963, she was united in marriage with Keith Allen Smith, in Grinnell. The couple lived in Colorado Springs for a year and moved to Malcom in 1964. She was a bookkeeper at D & R Feed in Victor for 18 years and retired on September 2, 2016. Sherilee enjoyed her family, and their well-being was very important to her. Her love and devotion was very evident! For many years, she cared for her elderly mother in her home. She knew the value of hard work and was driven to never give up on anything. She enjoyed cross-word puzzles, keeping up on current events, gardening when she was able, and driving her car while sight-seeing in the area. She was an excellent cook and an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes. She is survived by her two children, Keith "Allen" Smith and Kurstin Ann (Ron) Clark, all of Malcom; six grandchildren, Beau Allen Smith of Malcom, Bailey Nichol Smith of Sully, Brandon Clark Smith of Malcom, Brady Keith Smith of Newton, Cole Allen Clark of Malcom and Callie Dale Clark of Malcom; one great-grandson, Baylor Lane Glandon of Sigourney; and three sisters, Doris Coleman of Alvin, Texas, Frances Kibbee of Grinnell and Darlene McDonald of Kearns, Utah. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1995; her father in 1966 and her mother in 2013.
