Azalee R Hall

To God be the glory. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our matriarch, Azalee R. Hall, lovingly known as "Nanny". Born October 22, 1934 in Pacolet, SC, Azalee relocated to Knoxville, TN at a young age along with her twin sister, Rosalee. Both were adopted by their devoted aunt & uncle and raised as their own. Azalee attended Austin High School, class of 1953.

Azalee married the late Elbert Hall Sr. and they raised four children in the Austin Homes Community before relocating to a home in the Lonsdale Community. Azalee always exhibited a loving and caring nature, which she fostered into a career as a domestic and later as a supervisor in housekeeping at Lakeshore Hospital. Retiring in 1997, Azalee continued to nurture the ones she loved by sharing a helping hand, preparing delicious home cooked meals, and mastering her superior poundcakes, delectable chocolate cakes, and scratch made sweet potato pies.

Azalee loyally attended Mt. Olive Baptist Church for over 60 years under the direction of Dr. W.T. Crutcher, Rev. Kelley Smith, and Rev. Dr. McNeal. She was a founding member of New Beginnings Christian Community Fellowship, loyally serving Rev. McNeal and First Lady Victoria McNeal. Azalee travelled and joyfully engaged in fellowship with her church family and never met a stranger far or near. Azalee developed long lasting friendships with Ms. Valtina Harris and Mr. Jimmy Hunter. Pre-deceased by her loving parents Mr. & Ms. Barion Rice, twin sister Rosalee Whiteside, sisters Louise Johnson & Dorothy Jackson, companion of over 20 years Leviticus the cockatiel, and honorary grandson Kanye Harris.

Her memory remains with her four children, Gwendolyn Hall-Norton, Barion "Bro" Hall, Elbert "Tubby" Hall Jr. (Janice), and Isadore "Turbo" Hall. Azalee was a proud grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother and in each of them she instilled kindness, strong-will, and a love of God. She is cherished by a host of extended relatives, loyal friends, church family, and sole surviving sibling, Arthur Johnson of South Carolina. Special gratitude is expressed to her grandchildren, Keith & LaKeeva Turner who opened their home and provided round the clock care along with Ms. Danika Key. We thank the staff at DCI-Holston River who provided comfort through many years of service. Azalee's spirit will continue in each of the lives she touched.
