George W. Hedges Obituary

George W. Hedges, 78, of Versailles, husband for 56 years of Joyce G. Hedges, died Saturday, January 28 at the Hospice Care Center, Lexington. Born in Shelbyville, KY, he was a son of the late George W. Hedges Sr. and Norma Lucille Black Hedges. George was a Business Information Representative for St. Joseph Hospital. A longtime faithful member of the Versailles Baptist Church, he had been a Deacon, and Sunday School teacher. He loved the Bible and especially the books of Romans and Revelations. He was a teacher of Revelations to many of his Christian friends. In addition to his wife of 56 years, he is survived by two daughters, Jill (Kevin) Hall of Versailles, Lisa (J. R.) Couch of Lexington, his grandchildren, Sarah E. Czack, Alexandria J. Czack, Rebekah L. Hall, Kamryn G. Hall, George B. Couch, and Abigail J. Couch, two great grandchildren, Bradyn J. Couch and Austin Couch. Also surviving is a sister, Judy Wolf of Shelbyville, two brothers, Ray Maghee and Billy Joe Freeman, both of Lexington. He was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Portwood and a brother, Bobby Gene Freeman. Visitation is 4:00 to 7:00 pm, Tuesday, January 31 at Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home. Funeral services are 11:00 am, Wednesday, February 1 with Rev. Michael Cabell officiating. Committal and interment will follow services at Versailles Cemetery. Pallbearers are J. R. Couch, Kevin Hall, David "Buster" Lloyd, Ben Stivers, Andrew Clements, Murray Clark, and honorary pallbearer, Francis Carpenter. Contributions in memory of George are encouraged to the Versailles Baptist Church Building Fund, 125 E. Green St., Versailles, KY 40383.
