Bertha Denitson passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on September 18, 2023 in Wilmington, NC. Bertha was born on April 9, 1939 in Bladen County and is the daughter of the late Willie and Laura Robinson. Bertha was also preceded in death by her brother, Johnny Carl Robinson, her first husband, James Linston Byrd, son-in-law, Mark Westbrook, and her late husband Jacob Denitson. Bertha was a lady who loved the beach and spending time with her family. She also loved going to Home Depot with her son to purchase flowers to add to her beautiful garden.
Bertha is survived by her two daughters, Barbara Batson and her companion, Pedro, and Camie Westbrook; four sons, James Carey Byrd, John Wayne Byrd and his wife, Beth, Donald Eugene Byrd, and Lee Janicki and his wife, Ann; eight grandchildren, Wayne Batson, Tabitha Cottle, Cassie Locklear, Christina Spivey, Donald Byrd, Brian and Victor Westbrook, Kala Carson; eight great-grandchildren, Christopher, Danny, and Austin Batson, Joshua Byrd, Jenna Spivey, Hazel and Aryn Withem, and Arya Priester; three brothers, Ronnie Robinson, Donald Robinson, and his wife Hazel, and W.S. Robinson and his wife Wanda as well as many friends and extended family who will dearly miss her.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, September 23, 2023 at 2:00 PM in the Centerville Baptist Church, with the Rev. Allen Murray and Rev. Tony Fontana officiating. The Family of Bertha will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Natmoore Church Cemetery.
