Mack White Obituary

The Celebration of Life Service for Mr. White will be live streamed on the Facebook Page of Fisher Memorial Funeral Parlor.

FACE MASKS ARE REQUIRED!!!

Mr. Mack White, son of Mrs. Margaret White, transitioned to be with the Lord on Monday, September 18, 2023 at his home. Mr. White was born and reared in Durham, North Carolina.

Mr. White received his education in the Durham Public Schools and graduated from Hillside High School in the class of 1954. Upon graduation, he was employed at Wright Machinery Company. From there he moved to the American Tobacco Company and he remained there until his retirement. Mack knew the history of Durham and love to share information with anyone who would listen. He especially could tell you all there was to know about Hayti, the major African American community in Durham.

One of Mack’s greatest loves was his church. Growing up in Hayti, Mack through the influence of Mrs. Bessie Dunstan became acquainted with St. Mark A.M.E. Zion Church. Mack was involved in every aspect of the church from childhood to adulthood. His involvement included: Steward, Junior and Senior Usher Board, Leader’s Board, Finance Committee, Budget Committee, Church Treasurer, Varick Christian Endeavor Leader, Church Photographer and Sunday School Teacher. Even during his illness, Mack was concerned about his church and was an ardent supporter.

Mack was predeceased by his Mother, his brother James, the love of his life, Ms. Juanita Pettiford, a dear friend, Mrs. Theresa Carroll and several cousins.

His memory will be cherished by a special cousin, Ms. Barbara Soso and several other cousins and special friends including Vena Flowers, Jean Satterwhite and Rosett Smith and other relatives and friends.
