<p>George Robert Williams – Sydney Mines </p><p>It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of George Williams on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at the Regional Hospital after a brief illness. </p><p>George was employed with Sydney Steel for 40 years until his retirement. George was a member of the Sportsmen Club, where he was voted Sportsmen of the Year. He also belonged to the Antique Car Club, The Northside Boys. He enjoyed sitting in his garage beside his 65 Mustang and chatting with whoever dropped by. He was also an animal lover, especially his cat Smoke, whom he adored. </p><p>George is survived by his sister, Debbie MacIntosh, and a special nephew, Daryl Aker, who was like a son to him and Robin. Cousin David Aker, who was also a very good friend. Sisters-in-law Lucille Mac Rae, Claudia Gouthro (Wayne), nieces Lauri and Cheryl, nephews Jamie and Jonathan, grandnephew Jagger, and grandniece Autumn. </p><p>George was predeceased by the love of his life and best friend, Robin. His parents George and Elsie Williams. Sisters Faith Carter and Ada Glos Also, sister Ella Jane and brother Kenneth David in infancy. Along with his best friend, Joe Oram. </p><p>Cremation has taken place. A funeral service to celebrate George’s life will be held on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at 3 p.m. in the JM Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St. Sydney Mines. With Burial to follow in Lakeside cemetery. </p>
