Marcia A. Holquist Obituary

On Sunday, September 3rd, Sewickley bid farewell to a treasured soul, Marcia A. Holquist. After a valiant fight against cancer, Marcy departed from this world with her daughter close and surrounded by the comfort of her beautiful home.

Born to the late Richard & Marge Holquist of Fox Chapel on February 9, 1960, Marcy's spirit was a beacon of strength and warmth to everyone around her.  A graduate of Shadyside Academy, her artistic journey led her to Syracuse University where she embraced her creative passion, earning a degree in fine arts.  She went on to found her own successful photography business nearly 40 years ago, Marcy Holquist Photography, with a studio in The Strip District.  She had a keen eye for detail, balance, and color and her images included many commercial projects as well as books on Native American art for Four Winds Gallery.

Marcy's proudest role was "Mother" to her cherished daughter, Lauren Elizabeth Duff, affectionately known to many as Libby.  Every moment with Libby only enhanced Marcy’s unwavering love and devotion.  Marcy’s commitment to family also shone brightly, evident in her closeness with her brother, Scott Holquist, his wife Lori, and the joy she derived from her nieces, Katie, and Adair.  In addition to her immediate and extended family, Marcy was also a precious friend to so many near and far.

She was an avid gardener, best evidenced by her annual peony display, and a brilliant cook.  Marcy will be remembered for her gracious hospitality, her inimitable sense of style, her love of animals (including her yellow labs, birds, and horses), her rock-solid faith in Christ, and her extraordinary ability to recognize and appreciate beauty – both inside and out.

There will be a Celebration of Life service on Saturday, September 30th at 11:00 AM at Christ Church at Grove Farm, followed by a reception at Allegheny Country Club.

“In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to UPMC Hillman Cancer Center to support the research efforts of Marcy’s oncologist, Dr. Diwakar Davar. Please make checks payable to the University of Pittsburgh and mail to: UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, UPMC Cancer Pavilion, Suite 1B, 5150 Centre Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15232, or online via credit card at www.upmchillman.com/donate (http://www.upmchillman.com/donate); select make a gift to cancer research, and then make a designation of their choosing, or select “other” and type in “Davar Lab” or  call office directly at 412-623-4700 to make a gift over the phone.

Arrangements entrusted to R. D. Copeland, Ltd., Irvine Chapel, Sewickley, PA.
