Karen May Hoyer Obituary

Karen May Hoyer, age 81, of Miller, Missouri, passed away at 4:45 a.m. on Thursday, August 24, 2023, at the Mt. Vernon Place Care Center. She was born January 30, 1942, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the daughter of Gordon and Hazel (Hubell) Hawks.


Karen was a 1960 graduate of Huron High School in Huron, South Dakota. She was a manager at Don’s Crossroads on Hwy 96 north of Miller, Missouri. She was a member of the Ozark Prairie Presbyterian Church.


On May 19, 1962, she married Royal Axel Hoyer, in Huron, South Dakota. He preceded her in death on July 20, 2012.


Karen is survived by her son, James Hoyer and his wife, BJ, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; five grandchildren, Ashley DeVita and her husband, Scotty, of Florissant, Missouri, KyL Hoyer and his wife, Tyler, of Halltown, Missouri, Christian Hoyer and his wife, Madison, of Springfield, Missouri, Chelsea Hoyer of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and Montana Chitwood and her partner, Brandon Posey of Sikeston, Missouri; seven great-grandchildren and one brother, Dennis Hawks, of Sioux City, South Dakota.


Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon, and Hazel; one son, Michael Hoyer and two brothers, Alan, and Howard Hawks.


A visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at the Ozark Prairie Presbyterian Church with a memorial service to follow at 2:00 p.m. at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Morris-Leiman-Mosher Funeral Home, in Miller, Missouri.
