DECATUR -- Bernard "Bernie" Jacobs Jr. of Decatur passed away Monday (June 5, 2017) in his daughter's home surrounded by his family. Memorial services and celebration of life will be held 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, at Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Mount, Zion. Pastor Dean Cripe will officiate a service at 4:30 p.m. Bernie was born Feb. 22, 1947, in Decatur. Bernie loved being an Engineer for Norfolk Southern railroad and his 40 years plus of service. After retirement he worked part-time at Crown Toyota as a courtesy driver. He loved being involved with family and his grandchildren. He loved going to all the grandkids events and was so very proud of all of his family. Surviving are his brother, Tim (Linda) Jacobs; sister, Linda (David) Henry; son, Douglas (fiance, Lisa) Jacobs and Ashlyn, Austen, Alec Bozarth, all of Bloomington; daughter, Debbi (Chris) Hicks of Decatur; grandchildren, Cody (fiance, Holly) Flanders; Taylor (Dalton Kaufman) Flanders; Abbey, Caleb and Jessica Jacobs, Drew Hicks; great-grandchildren, Kyle Flanders, Lexi Flanders, Weston Kaufman, Olivia Flanders; special friend, Patty Connour; and many nieces, nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and June Jacobs. Bernie battled very hard with cancer for over two years. He never gave up. He loved listening to the birds while he was in his daughter's home in his final days. He touched so many lives and will be missed by all who knew him.
