Hilde, Al, Jr. Passed away July 28, 2023, peacefully in his Wyoming home at the foot of the Grand Teton mountain range, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife of many years, Jayne; sons, Tim (Lynn), Todd (Erika) and Bret; sisters, Carol Stewart, Ann (Mark); grandsons, Matthew (Angi), Michael (Michelle), Jackson, Shannon Larson (Andrea), Nick Larson (Crystal), Ryan Foley(Ashleigh), Tyler Foley, Nick Foley and many beloved great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind many respected colleages and friends. He lettered in three sports in high school in LaCrosse Wisconsin and went on to the University of Minnesota where he graduated with a degree in business administration. After he and Jayne were married, he was drafted into the U.S. Army where they spent two years at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. His time in biovac training made an impression, and the seeds of an idea to bring dignity to outdoor sanitation was born. And after returning to Minnesota, he started Satellite Industries, which brought outdoor restroom facilities to the construction industry and became an international business as he opened markets througout Europe, Asia and South America. In 1972 he expanded the business to include relocatable, modular buildings to be used on construction sites, or for other uses where temporary space is needed. In addition to business, his interests took him on many different paths, from president of the local PTA to leadership in church activities, serving as moderator of Wayzata Community Church, to Minnesota Orchestra board, serving on many boards in the community, active in the Young Presidents Organization, to politics where he became Mayor of Plymouth Minnesota, 1968-1977. He became interested in ways of bringing the sprawling community together and the idea of music in Plymouth was born. It wasn't long before the large crowds of people attending the concert to hear the Minnesota Orchestra play every year outgrew the parking lot where they were performing. Al decided to build an ampitheatre near the Plymouth City Hall, now named the "Hilde Performance Center." Among the many awards he has received throughout his career in business and non-profit work, he was also awarded the Minnesota Governors award for "Outstanding Achievement in Community and Economic Development." His love of hunting and flying brought him to Jackson, Wyoming where he soon fell in love with the beautiful mountains. He and Jayne built a home there, where they lived for over 30 years. They soon became active in the community, and with their interest in music, he became president of the Grand Teton Music Festival and was the driving force of an outdoor venue, "Music in the Hole." Maintaining his interest in business, he started a fixed base operation in Jackson Wyoming and with a partner it became Jackson Hole Aviation. He also purhased a business in Boise, Idaho, "Western Aircraft" which was a distributor for the Pilatas aircraft. Flying for business and pleasure over mountain ranges and oceans, he logged over 10,000 hours. Flying into the wilderness areas of nothern Idaho with his dog Cheekers by his side, was another highlight of his life. He was generous by nature, and spent time with many non profit organizations, both in giving advice and in funding. So that his philantropy would continue on when he was gone he formed the "Westwings Family Foundation." He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle who took pleasure in creating special times of adventure for his family. The celebration of his life, will be held Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at 4:00 p.m. at Wayzata Community Church, 125 East Wayzata Boulevard, Wayzata, followed by a reception at the Wayzata Country Club where friends will be able to greet the family and share stories and memories.
