Barry Thomas Hannon, died peacefully on Friday, July 28, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Boston Massachusetts on November 21,1935 to The Honorable Edwin F. Hannon and Marguerite (Barry) Hannon. Raised in Dorchester and Milton, Massachusetts with his siblings who predeceased him: Edwin F Hannon, Jr., Marie Hannon Malinowski, Jean Hannon Grace, and Marguerite “Pat” Hannon Hurley.

Barry attended Saint Gregory’s School in Dorchester, Milton High School and Tabor Academy in Marion Massachusetts. He enjoyed spending his summers in North Falmouth, where he met the love of his life, Deborah Smith Hannon. He went to The College of the Holy Cross, graduating in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science and then went on to pursue his law degree at Boston University Law School as part of the ROTC program. During his law school break he and Deb were married at St. John’s Church in Canton, MA in November of 1959. They then settled in Braintree Massachusetts where they lived for over 63 years.

He graduated from law school in 1961, passed the bar and then was commissioned as a lieutenant in the United States Air Force. With their first daughter Amy Hannon Baron, Deb and Barry traveled across the country in a convertible to begin their life on George Air Force Base in Victorville, California. They spent three years in California, where Barry was a captain of The United States Air Force, certified as a prosecutor and defense counsel while a Judge Advocate General with the Tactical Air Command. Barry also taught Sunday School to the young children on the base. They enjoyed traveling to Hawaii on space available with Amy toddling along. They returned to Braintree where Barry T. Hannon, Jr. and Kathryn Hannon were born to complete their young family.

Upon his return from Service, Barry joined his brother-in-law, Joseph Hurley Jr. and formed the firm of Hannon and Hurley Attorneys at Law in Braintree. Barry was a State Representative for two terms and was the Chairman of The House Committee on Bills in the Third Reading. He went door to door meeting the constituents where he enjoyed many cups of coffee and wore out three pair of shoes. Deb frequently drove Amy, Barry, and Kate around Quincy Point looking for Barry as he walked the neighborhoods. After two terms as State Representative, he then became Register of Deeds for Norfolk County, enjoying a long career until 2000 when he retired. During his career he served as the President of the Norfolk County Bar Association.

Throughout his long and distinguished career, Barry served his community in many capacities. He was a board member of US Trust Bank, Meeting House Bank, TILL, Towards Independent Living and Learning of Dedham, MA and The Family Guidance and Counseling Center in Braintree for many years. He also enjoyed being a member of The Knights of Columbus, the American Legion and the Braintree Elks Club. He was a parishioner and active participant in Sunday masses at St. Francis of Assisi in Braintree.

Barry’s love was his time with his family as they always came first. He cherished his time in North Falmouth where he was a lifelong member of the Megansett Yacht Club and former Commodore. He was also an early, equity member of the Pocasset Golf Club where he was an avid golfer. He spent every summer at their home in Megansett and enjoyed windsurfing, water skiing and riding his bike on the bike path to his favorite beach, Chappaquoit. But his favorite times were spent with his beloved grandchildren, John (Jack) Hannon Baron and Marguerite (Meggie) Elizabeth Baron and Brayden Thomas Hannon.

Winters in early years he enjoyed skiing in Vermont. In his later years he lived and spent winters in Pompano Florida boating on The Lucky Dog with family and dear friends.

Barry is survived by his wife of 63 years, Deborah of Braintree, his beloved children and their families: Amy Hannon Baron and her husband John Baron, their children Jack and Meggie Baron of Scituate, MA., Barry Hannon and his significant other Renee Mclean and their son Brayden Hannon of Braintree, MA. and Kathryn Hannon and her fiancé Paul Dalzell of Wrentham, MA. and Thomas J. Smith of Florida.

Visitation will take place on Monday, August 7, 2023 from 4 – 7 PM at Chapman Funerals & Cremations, 584 West Falmouth Highway, West Falmouth. A Funeral Mass will take place on Tuesday, August 8, 2023 at 11 AM at St. Elizabeth Seton Church, 481 Quaker Rd, North Falmouth. Burial will follow at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
