Edwin Wist, Sr., 94, of Deposit, passed away at home on Sunday, December 31, 2017. He was predeceased by his wife, Ruth “Chickie” Wist. He is survived by his four children, Ed Wist, Jr. and his wife, Sharon; Jean Cacialli and her husband, Tom; Patti Cammer and her husband Jim; and Fred Wist and his wife, Julie. Ed is also survived by his 15 grandchildren and their spouses, as well as 28 great-grandchildren. Ed was born on April 17, 1923, in New York City. He met the love of his life when he was 12 years old. They married on January 8, 1942. Ed enlisted in the United States Coast Guard in 1942 and served three years during World War II. Ed also served as a Boy Scout leader in both Long Island and Deposit for many years. In 1961, Chickie and Ed moved to Deposit, where they opened their campground, Guestward-Ho, and ran it until 2005. They also owned and operated Guestward-Ho’s Red Barn from 1969 until 1978. Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 5, 2018 from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM in the parish hall of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Deposit, NY. A funeral mass will follow at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to Deposit Community Park (P.O. Box 204, Deposit, New York 13754) in memory of Ed Wist, Sr. Arrangements are through the Zacharias Funeral Home, 78 Second St., Deposit, NY.
