Lou graduated from Holyoke High School in 1978, and went on to attend Boston University where he graduated with a degree in Business Administration from the School of Management. He started his 36 year career at Bank of New England as a credit analyst, retiring as the Senior Vice President / Chief Credit Officer of Credit Administration at Westfield Bank in early 2023. He was a mentor to many in banking through the years.

Lou was a dedicated man to his community of Holyoke. He was a long time member of the Holyoke YMCA, where he was a former president and served as a chairman of the Holyoke YMCA Trustees. He was the recipient of the Louis F. Oldershaw Community Service Award and the Volunteer of the Year Award.             In 1985, Lou met the love of his life Mary Ellen (Manitsas) of South Hadley, MA. Lou and Mary Ellen married in 1987 and shared 35 loving years together. Together, they built their dream home in Southampton and went on to have two beautiful children, Karissa and Janelle. Lou was a dedicated family man and together they made countless memories at Bruins games, afternoons by the pool, their children’s sporting events, traveling, playing Keno, and visiting breweries.

Lou was an avid golfer and spent countless hours perfecting his game at Wyckoff Country Club. He meticulously cared for his lawn and home. He loved to play softball and bowl with friends in his league “Frozen Bowling''. He loved to watch all things sports including his favorites the PGA Tour, Bruins, Patriots, and Yankees. When his children were growing up he volunteered countless hours as a coach and never missed a game or meet. He was truly their number 1 fan. He loved spending time by his pool and at “Sweet Lou’s Bar” that he built himself. He was a huge fan of Bruce Springsteen and looked forward to St. Patrick's Day Weekend in Holyoke every year, especially Friday night at Brennan’s Place with The E Street Shuffle. He was happiest when he was surrounded by his loving wife, family, and friends. Lou will be remembered by many for his perseverance, kindness, positive attitude, and sense of humor.
