Roy Edwin McConnell Obituary

Roy McConnell, former longtime Wewoka resident passed away in Shawnee, Oklahoma on December 24, 2017. He was born on September 14, 1936 in Bristow, Oklahoma to Roy and Lowetta (Kennedy) McConnell. He graduated from Tulsa High School. Roy served our country honorably in the United States Army as a sharpshooter and received awards for Good Conduct and Marksmanship. Afterwards, Roy married Blanche Alexander in 1954 and they enjoyed over 56 years of marriage and raised two children. The couple worked together at Big Yank Factory in Wewoka for over 37 years. Roy enjoyed fishing, shooting guns and watching OU football. There was nothing Roy took more pleasure in than attending every event his grandchildren were involved in while they were in school. Roy traveled many miles to ensure he was there to support his grandkids.


He is preceded in death by his parents, children Patricia Lee Hill Grissom, son Gerald Wesley Hill, brother Charles McConnell.


Survivors include his daughter-in-law Jeanie Hill of Holdenville, grandchildren Scotty Hill of Holdenville, Tammie Wicks and husband Shane of Broken Arrow, Bill Grissom and wife Shannon of Eufaula, and Jay Hill of Holdenville, eleven great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren; nephew Darren McConnell and his children, sisters-in-law Molsie Palmer, Nadine McBeth, and Wanda Chaffin, numerous other nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.


Funeral service is scheduled for 10:00AM on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at the Messiah’s Temple, 36408 Business 270, Wewoka. Nadine McBeth and Bro. James H. Rider II will officiate the service. Pallbearers are Scott Hill, Bill Grissom, Jay Hill, Zachary Parker, Harry Claytor, Shane Wicks and Winston Hill. Honorary Pallbearers are Joe Gatewood, Jason Claytor, Gary Don Loving, and Tyler Grabin. Interment to follow at Abiding Glory (Alexander family) Cemetery, Reagen, Oklahoma.
