Alvaro Filipe

Alvaro Filipe, 99, of Ludlow passed away peacefully on Monday, December 18, 2017. Born and raised in Ludlow he has lived here all of his life and was a faithful communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Parish, a proud member of the Gremio Lusitano Club and an avid hunter. Alvaro was a United States Army veteran honorably serving his country during World War II. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Alvaro was the beloved husband of the late Lourdes ( da Conceicao) Filipe who predeceased him in 2016. He leaves his loving son Tony Filipe and his wife Maureen of Ludlow, cherished grandsons Derek Filipe and wife Cassie of Bolivia and Kyle Filipe and his wife Kathleen of Dedham; 2 adored great-grandchildren Braelyn and Emerson; his caring brothers Joaquim Batista and Armando Batista both of Ludlow as well as several dear nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. Sadly he was predeceased by his brothers Alfonso, Antonio and Jose. Funeral services with military honors for Alvaro will be held on Saturday, December 23, 2017 at 9:00am from the Ludlow Funeral Home with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:00 AM in Our lady of Fatima Church followed by burial in Island Pond Cemetery. Visiting hours are Friday evening from 4:00 to 7:00pm and in Lieu of flowers it was the wish of Alvaro’s family that donations be made in his memory to: The Disabled American Veterans Charitable Service Trust, 3725 Alexandria Pike, Cold Spring, Kentucky. 41076.
