Obituary

1939-2023: John Paul “Hank” Foss,84, of Linwood passed away at The Samaritan Center Hospice in Vorhees NJ on June 7th 2023. Mr. Foss was a resident of Linwood, NJ, where he resided with his wife of fifty-seven years prior to her death in 2020, and where he continued to live for the remainder of his life. He was a graduate of Pleasantville High School and was a union brick layer until his retirement. His loves were Jesus, his wife and their children, grandchildren, and great grandchild.

Mr. Foss was predeceased by his parents John and Frances Foss, and his wife of 57 years Kathryn Watson Foss. Mr. Foss, with his wife Kathryn, had three children and seven grandchildren, all having a strong Christian faith and joy in The Lord. He is survived by his, children Kathryn (Jim) Lilly, John (Priscilla) Foss, Christine (Tony) Hess, and grandchildren Katie (Ryan) Kealey, Taylor (Lucas) Dutil, Alyssa Foss, Johnny Foss, Dane Foss, Jack Hess, Maggie Hess, and a great-granddaughter Brooke Kealey.

John was nicknamed “Hank” by his father, and he kept the name his entire life. He was called “Pop” when the grandchildren came along. Hank loved every aspect of his life with many different interests. When Hank was young, he loved playing baseball, he said he could play all day. Throughout his life Hank was an avid and talented golfer. He was an extremely skilled brick mason who remained in demand even during economic down times. Hank had a dry wit. Pop often shared life lessons with the family with a couple of favored sayings, “Years bring forth wisdom that days will never see.” and “Treat your friends like family and your family like friends.” After he retired from a successful career as a brick mason, Hank and Kathy traveled near and far, and always enjoyed their adventures together. He especially loved interacting with his children and grandchildren. Each of his children and grandchildren adored him, and each felt that they had an individual and special and bond with “Pop”, and each one was correct.

A future grandson in-law relayed a story that exemplifies Hank. While dating Hank’s granddaughter Hank pulled him aside at a family gathering and whispered, "Do you see how wealthy I am?" And the future grandson in-law must have looked confused, and he said it again, "Do you see how wealthy I am?" and then he pointed to each one of the family. He truly loved his family. This wealth that Hank had is the greatest inheritance left to his family, who all have a great relationship. That character echoes in every one of his three children, their spouses, and all seven grandchildren resulting in a strong character and a deep faith in Jesus.

Hank/Pop was loved and will be missed by his children, grandchildren, great grandchild, and friends, but all are comforted to know he is now with The Lord after living a truly wonderful and joyous life.

There is a private Funeral Service at Adams Perfect Funeral Home, with Interment: at Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery in Egg Harbor Township.
