August Fritz Weise, born in Yorktown, Texas September 23, 1933, to Gustav Richard Weise and Norma Meyer Weise. Baptized on November 30, 1933 at St. Paul’s Lutheran in Yorktown, Texas. They moved to the Rio
Grande Valley when he was 4 years old. At age 7 he began school in Donna, Texas where his parents
were sharecroppers and later owned resale shop. He had incredible memories of picking cotton. August
was Confiirmed in the faith on March 30, 1947. He played flute in the high school band and played
basketball and football in middle school and high school. He was the high point basketball star for the
District in his senior year and graduated in May 1952. He then played ball for Texas Lutheran College in
Seguin, Texas. In 1953, he worked 6 months as a Police officer in San Juan, Texas, then owned a gas
station and married Esther Gertrude Obst on August 2, 1953 at Faith American Lutheran Church in
Weslaco, Texas. They traveled and saw the world together. He began work for Western Electric/AT&T
where he worked for 35 years installing telephone equipment and generators in telephone buildings and
missile silos across the country. They lived in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and Wyoming. Eventually
settling in San Antonio, Texas where they lived 58 years and was an active member of The Lutheran
Church of the Good Shepherd. Augie sang at countless weddings and funerals till hearing loss. He
moved to Spring, Texas in November 2021 where he lived at The Village at Gleannloch Farms attending
Tai Chi, Chapel and meals by Chef Ciro! He read newspapers cover to cover, Car and Driver Magazine
and Consumer Reports and loved history books. He enjoyed time with family and friends, and loved his
Savior Jesus Christ. He passed June 1, 2023 in Spring, Texas.
He is predeceased by his parents Gus and Norma, his wife Esther of 60 years of marriage his daughter
Lore Angeline Weise Sparks Berg, his siblings and their spouses Marie-Atta and Dixon Riemenschneider,
Elvis Weise, Bernice and Russ Snider, Maggie Weise and nephews Timothy Obst and Shawn Snider and
step father Otto Hanys. In laws Bruno and Gertrude Obst, the Reverend Martin and Gloria Obst, Herman
and Ardyce Obst, and Karl Obst.
He is survived by daughter Sheryl and Jim Lyssy, granddaughters Amanda and Steven Joe Boykin, Kate
and Jon Slavik and Margaret Berg. Son in laws Tommy Sparks and Gunnar and Cindy Berg. In laws Annie
and Edwin Obst, Sandra Obst, Paul and Joyce Obst. Great granddaughters Abigail, Lila and Dorothy
Boykin. Brother, Wayne Weise and countless nieces and nephews
Funeral will be held June 10, 2023 at Finch Funeral Home in Yorktown, Texas at 10:30am. Interment will
be held in Weesatche, Texas following at Gottschall Cemetery.
August now rests in the glory of our God.
