Virginia “Ginny” McCarthy Brister, 99, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 3, 2023. She was born and raised in Auburn, New York, though called York her home for 70 years after raising her 5 children and making many enduring friendships there.


She was married to Charles W. Brister for over 57 years before his death in 2005. She is survived by her children: David (Diane), Neil (Anita), Nancy, and Linda. Her son, Carl, predeceased her in 2016. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren: Brian (Wendy) Brister, Jeff (Laurie) Brister, Jessica (Joe) Hardy, Michael (Christine) Brister, Danielle Brister, Alexandra Brister, Christopher (Monica) Brister, Caitlin (Kyle) Briley and Colin (Caroline) Brister along with 10 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.


She had a full life and enjoyed spending time with family and friends near and far. She had many interests, spent many happy hours playing games especially with her grandchildren, and had been an avid bridge player until recent months. Also, she was an active member of the York Catholic Women’s Club for over 50 years.


Relatives and friends are invited to share in a Visitation with the family at 10:00 AM followed by a funeral Mass at 10:30 AM on Friday, June 9 at St. Patrick’s Church, 231 S Beaver Street, where she was an active member throughout her life in York.


The family suggests donations in memory of Virginia Brister be made to VisionCorps, Attention: Foundation, 244 N Queen St, Lancaster, PA 17603.
