Obituary
Colleen Troy Benté
3/12/1955 – 5/31/2023
Colleen (Troy) Benté, 68, of Oak Forest, IL entered fully into the great kindness of God on Thursday, May 31, 2023.
Those who were loved, changed, and inspired by her include her husband of 47 years James Benté, daughter Holley (Casey) Tygrett, granddaughter Bailey Tygrett, sister Cindy (Danny) Pulcini, nephews Brad (Erin) Pulcini, Bobby (Erin) Pulcini and nieces Tara (Nick) Hempel and Erin Benté.
Colleen was born and raised in Swissvale, Pennsylvania by her parents Frank and Patricia Troy who precede her into God’s presence.
Colleen was a constant advocate for literacy, learning, and compassion. A voracious reader, she was an ardent supporter of public libraries wherever she lived. She was a life-long volunteer who gave her time to a variety of causes in her local community including schools, churches, libraries, hospital auxiliaries, women’s shelters and most recently The Bridge Teen Center.
Colleen used her gift with people and passion for giving back to be an active fundraiser for causes she felt were most dear. As the recipient of a liver transplant, she also worked very hard to bring awareness to the need for organ donation whenever she had the chance.
She enjoyed the presence of good friends and rarely left an interaction without remembering a detail that mattered greatly to the other person. She frequented Bible studies throughout her life as a follower of Jesus, investing in both younger and older women and helping them grow in their faith.
Colleen will be deeply missed as light and joy in our world, but we will most definitely see her again one day.
Services will be held at Parkview Christian Church Chapel (11100 Orland Parkway, Orland Park, IL 60467) on Saturday, June 24th beginning with a visitation at 9am and service at 10am.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Bridge Teen Center in Orland Park, IL.
