Norma Genevieve Lavik, the daughter of George and Virginia (Hammond) Fahrnkopf was born on October 25, 1925 in Willow City, North Dakota. She died at the age of 97 years on Thursday, June 1, 2023 at Trinity Hospital in Minot, North Dakota.

Norma was raised in the Willow City area and was the youngest of ten children. As a little girl, Norma loved to fish, fishing off the banks of the rivers and creeks around Willow City, which formed a special bond with her dad. She spent many years enjoying the family cabin at Lake Metigoshe with family. They would cook big meals of fried chicken and potato salad or a full turkey dinner, which she carried on throughout her life. During the school years, she would stay with an aunt in Rugby, where she attended and graduated from Rugby High School.

On December 31, 1944, she was united in marriage to Howard P. Lavik in Fargo. They were blessed with three boys and raised them in Rugby. Her love of fishing continued and she especially loved to fish with her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. When at the lake, you could often find her fishing off the dock. Howard and Norma moved to Minot, where Norma worked as a secretary for Farmers Union Insurance. Howard died in 1991 and Norma continued to live in Minot. Norma was close to her family and enjoyed time spent with her children, grandchildren and her special time with her great grandchildren. Springtime was her favorite time of year and couldn’t wait to start yard work and planting her garden with vegetables and many beautiful flowers. She was intrigued by the modern technology of the internet, computers and was ahead of the curve, always having the latest computer, phone and ipad. Norma was a strong, sharp, proud and loving woman who was so proud of her family.

Norma is survived by her sons, Thomas (Bonnie) Lavik of Blaine, Minnesota and Timothy Lavik of Minot; daughter-in-law, Joy Lavik of Minot; grandsons, Jason (Brenda), Dan (Mickie) and Andrew (Kristen) Lavik; granddaughter, Gillian (Tore) Knudsen; six great grandchildren; nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her son, Richard; her husband, Howard; her six sisters and three brothers.
