Ira Dean Aurand Obituary

Ira Dean Aurand — Age 89, of Robie Street, Bath, NY, died Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at

Guthrie Hospital in Towanda, PA, with family by his side. He was born in Luthersburg,

Pennsylvania on January 11, 1934, to Earl and Luella Aurand.

Dean retired from NAPA Auto Parts in Bath, NY after 41 years, and has been a bus driver for the Bath Central School District

for the past 19 years. He enjoyed working on engines and refurbished a ‘57 Chevy, showing it

off in the Dairy Parade. He was a faithful member of the Avoca Baptist Church. He was selfless,

giving, and always witty, with his life revolving around family and friends. Dean was a very loving

and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. To all the kids on his

bus over the years, he was known as “Mr. Dean” everyone’s favorite bus driver. He genuinely

loved what he did and the students. When asked how work was, he would always say, “My day

was perfect”.

He is survived by his two daughters, Wendy (Carl) Spady of Elmira, NY, and

Sandy Hmiel of Corning, NY; his sister Evelyn Timblin of Wichita Falls, TX; his grandchildren,

Corey (Jessica) Hmiel, Jessica Spady, Ryan Spady, John Hmiel, and Derek (Karen) Hmiel; and

his great-grandchildren Dean, Marietta, Hannah, and Hayden Hmiel.

He was predeceased by his wife Betty Aurand, and sisters Georgie Kuntz and Joan Harris. His kind heart and smile will

be missed.
