David W. Avery

<p>David W. Avery, 84, formerly of Auburn, died Thursday, May 25, 2023, at the Clover Manor in Auburn, where he has been a resident for the past several years. Born in Lubec on February 8, 1939, he was the son of Willard C. and Louise Miller Avery. Educated in Lubec schools, he was a graduate of Lubec High School, Class of ‘57. After graduation, he served with the U.S. Army and was stationed in West Germany. He returned to Maine after his discharge in 1964, and on October 22, 1966, married the love of his life, the former Margaret C. Smith. They were married in the Church of St. Wenceslaus, in Chicago, Illinois. David worked for various railroads around the country, eventually returning to Portland, Maine in 1968 and working for the Maine Central Railroad, later known as Springfield Terminal, as a Freight Agent, retiring in 2004. He enjoyed working on the elaborate model train set he had at home, and he loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include his loving wife Margaret, a son, Thomas Avery and wife Diane, two daughters, Karen and husband Robert Hall Jr., and Anna and husband Richard Bissonnette, nine grandchildren, James Avery and wife Meghan, Heather and husband Nick Langlais, Katie Avery-Hurd and wife Erica, Samantha and husband James Vachon, Jennifer Hall and partner Morgan Noonan, David Hall, Amanda Bissonette, Aaron Bissonette and girlfriend Mikelle Kearnes, and Krista and husband Joe York, six great-grandchildren, Maverick, Dilynne and Jagger Avery, Easton and Maddox Langlais, and Owen Hall, a brother, Edward Avery, two nieces and one nephew, and his dog, Summit. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Shirley Bennett, and a sister-in-law, Miranda Ann Avery. Visitation will be held at the Albert &amp; Burpee Funeral Home on Monday, June 5, 20123, from 11 AM to 1 PM, followed by a service and military honors at 1 PM. Interment, Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta.
