Michael Kenneth Charest Obituary

AUGUSTA-Michael Kenneth Charest, 72, passed away unexpectedly May 26, 2023. He was born February 19, 1951, a son of Edmond and Doris (Patnaude) Charest.

Mike grew up in Augusta and attended schools locally. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1971 and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. After the Navy, Mike worked for various companies, one being Statler Tissue for a couple decades. He had a tight group of friends he liked to call the “Statler brothers.” After Statler Mike opened up Mike’s Welding and was self-employed as a welder fabricator. He was well renowned for his work throughout the state.

On March 21,1971 he married his soul mate, Gloria Metivier and together raised their two sons, Craig and James. Mike and Glo were always side by side. Whether it be building a house, cutting firewood, riding the tote roads of the North Maine Woods, snowmobiling, bird hunting, hosting friend and family gatherings they were always making memories. They had a love for each other that made other people envious, they were truly made for each other. As we mourn the sudden loss of Mike, please find peace and comfort knowing he is with Glo, and there is no place he would rather be.

With Glo came the Tondreau family who he found life long friendship in. Lots of time was spent at Glo’s parents camp at Three Mile Pond. Everybody was always welcomed and it was “the more the merrier” type of atmosphere. An avid outdoorsman, Mike enjoyed going “upta camp” in the North Maine woods where Pittston Farm was his second home. Mike was proud to be part of the big buck club not once but twice and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling. He loved pushing limits and enjoyed going to areas that most wouldn't dare go. He liked to refer to this area as “God’s country”

He is preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Charest; and his brother, Richard Charest.

Mike will be missed by his family, sons Craig Charest and James Charest; grandchildren, Kimberly Charest and her fiancée Scott Hale, and Calub Charest; a great-grandson Joshua Charest; A sister-in-law, Marie Charest; nephew, Wyatt Charest; his beloved extended family and his northern Maine family; and his beloved black lab, Maverick.

A memorial service will be held at 10 am on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, ME 04330. A celebration of life will be at Le Club Calumet, 334 West River Rd, Augusta, ME 04330 immediately after. Burial will take place in the fall at Maine Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers,
