<p>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Mrs. Sandra Rutter Nabors, 94, passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2023.</p><p><br></p><p>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;A funeral service will be conducted Friday at 2:00 PM in the Mausoleum at Pinewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the Mausoleum following the service.</p><p><br></p><p>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Mrs. Nabors, daughter of the late Walter S. Rutter and Rosella Pegg Rutter, was a native of Point Marion, PA. She was a telephone operator for most of her adult life – starting the week after she graduated from high school; working a total of 30 years in Morgantown, WV, Cleveland, OH, and finally at East Carolina University. At ECU, she earned the nickname “Sandra Switchboard” (the old way of handling calls). She was a member of Jarvis Memorial United Methodist Church.</p><p><br></p><p>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;In the earlier years after her husband John was transferred to Greenville with Union Carbide, she enjoyed playing bridge with friends, went bowling with the Union Carbide ladies (a very good bowler) and was a voracious reader. She had a very generous spirit; always lending a helping hand – to family and friends, and her cats. Sandra had a deep love and devotion for her family and friends. She enjoyed visits by relatives and friends from near and far; sharing their place at the river, and later at Atlantic Beach. She also loved her cats. Sandra documented that between 1960 and 2002, she had a total of 16 cats.</p><p><br></p><p>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Sandra left a lifetime of memories, including 70 years of marriage with John, who passed away in 2020. She is survived by two daughters, Cindy Autry and husband, Tom of Wake Forest, and Carolyn Willis of Greenville; grandsons, Ryan Autry and wife, Jenn, and Landon Autry and wife, Stephanie of Raleigh; great-grandchildren, Jackson, Darcy, and Ryleigh Autry. She was preceded in death by her brother and sister.</p><p><br></p><p>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions to the Pitt County Humane Society.</p><p><br></p>
