Evans Jr., affectionately known as Pop, Sonny, Uncle Sonnyboy, Grandpa, and Uncle Robert. He was born on July 28, 1936 (86 y/o) in Surry County, Virginia.</p><p><br></p><p>Robert’s childhood past-time included going to Grandpa’s (Burrell) house with his siblings and getting into mischief. After chores they would be running around playing with Grandpa’s buggy, in which they did not have permission to mess with. They would lay cooling it under the porch and scouring for their next mischief. They were big pranksters among themselves. They would bring several food items home from Grandpa’s, such as apples, peanuts, and smoked meat. Once again without permission.</p><p>He worked as a farmer to help support his family. At the age of 17 he stood by the road with his lunch in an oatmeal box. Hoping for a better job. Along came Mr. Joseph Wayner, who gave him the opportunity to learn about laying brick/block. In which later led him to become a master brick/block layer. He retired from this trade after 47 years. Robert also became a master carpenter of everything. His past-time was sitting in his shed, wondering what to make next. Mostly working on making walking canes and defense sticks. The current project he was working on, was adding a second addition to his storage shed.</p><p><br></p><p>He had a vested pleasure in older model cars and could easily identify any make and model. He also loved to work on cars and lawn mowers and had a collection of both. He owned a collection of guitars , he played and made up his own songs.</p><p><br></p><p>They joined Narrow Way Church (COOLJC) where they were baptized and filled with the precious gift of the Holy Ghost, under the leadership of the late Elder James Andrew. Then later joined Mount Calvary (Calvary Temple) Church of our Lord Jesus Christ (COOLJC) in 1981 under the leadership of the late Apostle Wesley Taylor Sr., where he was ordained serving on the Deacon Board.</p><p><br></p><p>He proceeds in death his wife of 28 years Orine Elizabeth Stith Evans, his son, Robert Evans Jr. (Glenise) and his children; Jerome West-Bey Sr (Laretta). And Renee Williams. His parents Robert and Corine Gwaltney Evans Sr. His brothers, Carillon Evans Sr. and Wendell Evans. His maternal-grandparents Gus and Amanda Gwaltney. His parental-grandparents Burrell and Ida Wooden Evans.</p><p><br></p><p>He leaves to cherish his memories: his daughters, Orine “Michelle” Ortiz (Kevin) and Sharon Y. Evans his devoted caregiver; his children, Renzellus West-Bey Sr. (Andrea), Claudette Benson (Dedrick), and Cecil West-Bey; his grandchildren, Kevin Ortiz Jr., Whitney Bruno, Jaylin Turner, Tyesha Evans, Tyrell Evans, Tiara Evans, Renzellus West-Bey Jr., Donell West-Bey, Rochelle Chapman, Edward West-Bey, Lavon “Mario” Jones, Jerome West-Bey Jr., Shaunte West-Bey, Alexandria Edwards, Dedrick Botley, Schnika Benson, and Jerrod Benson; great grand-children, Nicolas Evans,&nbsp;Wayne Chapman Jr, Kaelyn McCants, Kaylon Mccants, Lavon Jones Jr., Carter Jones, Asiyah Botley, Atalya Botley, Sch'Niyah Benson, Amare' Houston, Kayvon West-Bey, Geniyah West-Bey, Karrmel Bruno, Kamrynn Bruno, and Karsynn Bruno&nbsp;; sisters, Velma Evans Gray and Barbara Evans Gray; sisters-in-law, Joyce Ann Stevenson (James) and Diane Stith; devoted cousins, John “Pim” Butler and Milton “Bubba” Gwaltney; devoted long-time friends, Robert and Josephine Smith; &nbsp;a host of devoted nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews; and a host of friends.</p><p><br></p><p>Homegoing service will b held 1 P.M., Saturday, June 10, 2023 at the Petersburg Chapel of Bland Funeral Home, 137 Harrison St., Petersburg, VA, 23803., District Elder David Boone, eulogist. Interment will follow at Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery, Petersburg, VA. Public visitation will be 12-7 PM, Friday, June 9, 2023</p><p><br></p><p>The funeral arrangements for Mr. Robert L.
