Helen Lenchen Friend Obituary

FRIEND, Helen Lenchen (nee Wolfe)

Passed away at Radiant Care Tabor Manor on May 28, 2023, with her children at her side. Cherished mother of Lori Prime (Neil) and Bill Friend. Loving grandmother to Sheldyn, Chelsea, Jacob and Isaac. Predeceased by her mother Margarete and her sisters, Lucy and Margaret.

Helen was born February 8th, 1947, in Westerau, West Germany. In 1948 her mother Margarete immigrated to Canada with her and her two sisters and settled in the small town of Virgil where Aunts and Uncles resided. Helen became a Canadian citizen in the fall of 1979.

In Helen’s adult life, she resided in St Catharines and raised two children of her own. She raised her children until they finished school and then moved on to work for the Ontario March of Dimes in 1989. In 1991 she became employed at Electropac Ltd. as a Senior PCB Technician. It was there she found her beloved cat Georgie. He was a stray kitten found lost and hungry behind the building. Helen gave Georgie his forever home.

In 2006, Helen retired from Electropac and thereafter decided to spend her time at home with her cat and indulge herself in mystery novels written by James Patterson. She enjoyed gathering for breakfast with her girlfriends that she made at the March of Dimes. At Christmas, she would love to bake dozens of cookies to give to her family. Helen also enjoyed a trip or two to the Casino with her long-lived companion, as well as camping trips on Marten River.

Special thanks are given to the staff at Radiant Care Tabor Manor. The kindness and care were exceptional. Helen was loved by the staff for her smiles, her sense of humour, wit and politeness. She will be missed by the staff as well by her friends and most importantly her family.

In honouring Helen’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A private graveside service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Alzheimer Society Niagara, would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to Considerate Cremation & Burial Services, 26 Nihan Drive, St. Catharines (between Lake Street & Scott Street), 289-362-1144. Online condolences may be made at CCBSCares.ca
