Alma Brittingham Baylis, 93, of Pocomoke, passed from this life on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at Chesapeake Cove Assisted Living in Crisfield. Born in Sign Post, VA, she was the daughter of the late Levin and Ruth Pettit Brittingham.

In her early years, she was employed as a legal secretary and also as a secretary at the Chincoteague Naval Station. After rearing her children, she also returned to work for 10 years at the Wallops Flight Center.

She is survived by her three sons, Brooks Baylis of Pocomoke, David Baylis of Pocomoke and Steve Baylis of West Palm Beach, FL; one daughter, Ruthellyn Jonsson of Doylestown, PA. Also surviving are 6 grandsons, Bryan Baylis of Merritt Island, FL, Brad Baylis of Odenton, MD, Andrew Baylis of Nashville, TN, Kris Jonsson of Philadelphia, PA, Dan Jonsson of Boca Raton, FL and Alex Jonsson of Boca Raton, FL and one granddaughter, Lauren Walker of Pocomoke, 4 great-grandchildren, Blaire, Brynn, Nina and Patton. She also leaves behind 3 sisters, Eleanor Langley of Myrtle Beach, SC, Annette Bynum of Allen, MD and Judy Elliott of Sign Post, VA; 2 brothers, Wayne Brittingham of Pocomoke and Dale Brittingham of Sign Post, VA and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Baylis, Jr., 4 sisters, Olive Marshall, Betsy Jenkins, Kathryn Mason and Jean Parker and 2 brothers, Jack and Jim Brittingham.

Alma was a member of Pocomoke First Baptist Church and had served in the choir, Sunday School Teacher and Church Clerk.

A funeral service will be held at 1:30 PM on Sunday, June 4, 2023 at Sign Post United Methodist Church, New Church, VA. A visitation will be held 30 minutes prior to the service. Pastor Steve Willing will officiate. Burial will be in First Baptist Cemetery in Pocomoke.
