Loretta M. (Walsinger) Bailey Obituary

The world lost a sweet, wonderful person when Loretta M. (Griffin) Walsinger Bailey, 89, of Fort Madison, passed peacefully and rose to her Lord with the sun on Tuesday, May 30, 2023.

LaLa, as she was lovingly called, was born July 13, 1933 in Melrose, Iowa to William Patrick and Kathleen Agnes (McGrath) Griffin. She was one of 11 children, Billy, Mamie, Donna Jean, Bobby, Eddie, Patty, Danny, Davey, Paul and Jerry. All of whom have preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by an infant son, John Thomas Francis Walsinger, husbands Kenneth M. Walsinger and James Bailey and sons in law, John R. Goodson and Robert E. Brown.

She grew up hunting and fishing. She was a "dead eye" shot, as her brothers described her, putting them all to shame! She enjoyed playing softball, writing and reciting poetry, singing in Sweet Adelines AND she never tired of telling stories!

After graduating from high school, she worked at the Iowa Ammunition Plant, Sylvania and later at General Electric, retiring from there after many years of service. She married Kenneth Walsinger in 1953 and together they raised 3 children in Fort Madison.

She was a devout Irish Catholic and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fort Madison. She spent her winters with her daughter, Debra and son in law, Robert, at Silver Lakes Ranch in Texas where she attended St. William's Catholic Church during those times.

She will be sorely missed and forever remembered by her children, Debra K. Goodson, Silver Lakes Ranch, TX; Beth A. (Biff) Rippenkroeger, Wever, IA and Jeffery L. (Jackie) Walsinger, Fort Madison, IA; 3 grandchildren; Kenneth (Megan McCann) Walsinger, Allison (Derek) Sondag, Thomas (Emma Staecker) Rippenkroeger, 2 step grandchildren, Dasan (Toni Shafer) Brown, Dawn (Jerry) Chaparro; 3 great grandchildren; Jackson and Riley Sondag and Carson Brown; numerous nieces and nephews and her constant cat companion, Tippytail.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory. A visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at Ss. Mary & Joseph Church. A rosary will be recited at 9:15 a.m. just prior to the visitation. The memorial mass will immediately follow at 10:30 a.m. at Ss. Mary & Joseph Church with Rev. Joseph Phung officiating. Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Cemetery. A memorial has been established and may be made in her name to: P.A.W. Animal Shelter, Attn: Tribute, 2031 48th Street, Fort Madison, IA 52627.
