James A. Hudson, Jr. Obituary

James Arthur Hudson, Jr., 87, of Dublin, Georgia peacefully passed away at the Langdale Hospice House in Valdosta, Georgia on May 29, 2023, after having two days surrounded by his family, sharing stories, laughing and shedding many tears. He could not have asked for a better send-off by those he loved so much.

James was born on August 4, 1935, in Byron, Georgia, to parents James A. Hudson, Sr. and Lillian Johnson Hudson. The first of 6 children, he was the older brother to Miriam Hudson Griffin (Wilbur, deceased), Hubert Hudson (Dot), Wayne Hudson (Marilyn), Linda Hudson McCall, deceased (Bubba), and Leon Hudson (Nancy).
James married his high school sweetheart, Jeannie Tucker Hudson, after proposing at Fincher’s Barbecue in Macon, Georgia. They were happily married for 69 years, and have one daughter, Debbie Hudson Towson (Jimmy) and one grandson, Jim Towson (Gina) and three great granddaughters, Eleanor, Josie and Margot and many beloved nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

James was truly a servant leader in all that he did, including managing Belk-Matthews in Dublin for 38 years, Evans Cabinet Company, Dublin Civitan International since 1958, The Salvation Army, Jefferson Street Baptist Church and Dublin First Baptist Church. He served in countless ways in the community including the Dublin Civitan Fair, St. Patrick’s Day Parade (organizer & director), and Helping Hands.

He loved spending time at Lake Sinclair where he taught many to ski, spending countless hours on the water pulling family and their friends all over the lake. James was a man of strong faith, who loved passionately and gave generously to all and he will be greatly missed.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at First Baptist Church Cemetery in Centerville, Georgia with Dr. Jack Brown, chaplain presiding.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 2, 2023, at Townsend Funeral Home from 5-7 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Baptist Church, Civitan International, The Salvation Army, or to the charity of choice.
